East News:

+++ All boys interested in trying out for basketball, there will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 9th at 2:30 pm in the Library Annex.

++ Forms are available for Guest Passes for the East High Homecoming Dance. They need to be turned in no later than, WED., 9-10. No exceptions!!  Forms are available in the Student Activities office.

++Softball Open Gym is Monday, September 8th from 6:00-8:00 P.M. ~~Meet in the upper gym. ~All interested female athletes are welcome to attend. ~Wear appropriate practice clothes, and bring your own glove.

++Interested soccer players, there will be a meeting in the Library Annex at lunch, today.  Come and meet the coach and pickup information he has to pass out.

++Lady T Basketball players, come and meet the new coach and receive information, today at 2:30 PM, Library Annex.

DID YOU KNOW...that in Alaska fewer than 15% of the eligible donors give blood? If you are 16 years of age and above, you can give the gift of life. ~Key Club will be sponsoring our first Blood Drive of the year on Tuesday, September 16, in the Library Annex. ~If you will be 16 by the 16th and want to donate, stop by room NW2 and pick up a parental permission form. All students who donate on East's campus (whether they are 18 years old or younger) must have a SIGNED permission form to donate. ~See Mrs. Mitchell or any other Key Club officer if you have any questions.

The library is open from 7 AM until 3:30 PM Monday through Friday. ~Students may check out books with photo ID or copies of their schedules. ~Come on down and check out a new book, one of this years ÒBattle of the BooksÓ books, or an "old" favorite!

CAREER RESOURCE INFORMATION

Looking to hire a a high senior student as a Teen Assistant for the Russian Jack 21st CCLC After-school Program. Need someone M-F, 3-5:30 p.m. ~The pay is $10 per hour, course computes to $25 per day, with an option of an additional 15 minutes at the end of each day. ~The applicant needs to be reliable, self-assured, capable of following directions and needs to have the potential to interact in a positive, firm manner with adults and students K-6. ~~~Program starts on Monday, September 15th. Program does not serve kids on school holidays, school vacation days or on In-Service days. ~~If interested contact Ms. Gaither in the CRR.

The Anchorage Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) is currently looking to fill several vacancies. The YAC is made up of fifteen commissioners aged 14-22. The Commission meets once a month and advises the Mayor and Assembly on issues and programs of importance to the youth community in Anchorage. ~Candidates should be motivated, and demonstrate dedication to volunteerism and community service. ~We look for commissioners from diverse backgrounds representing a cross section of Anchorage-area high schools. ~Commissioners are appointed to 3-year terms by Mayor Begich and are subject to approval by the Assembly.  See CR center for information.
